MMA veteran Ed West has been nominated as the athlete representative to the UMMAF Board of Directors.  Mr. West will be on the election ballot during the July 11th, 2020 UMMAF Extraordinary Assembly.  Read  Ed West’s bio below.

Ed West was born in the Philippines in 1983 on the Subic Bay Naval Base and began training in martial arts at the age of 9. Mr. West began competition in Tae Kwon Do before moving on to grappling based martial arts including Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. A love of competition and quest for self improvement led Ed West to begin fighting mixed martial arts at the age of 19 years old and turned professional in 2003.  Long before the adoption of unified rules, Ed  fought in 3 different weight classes from 155 lbs down to 135 lbs over the course of 40 professional fights and went on to become one of the most decorated fighters in Arizona winning titles in five regional promotions including Rage in the Cage, World fighting Federation, RUF MMA, Desert Rage and Aggression Session.

Ed West has had 12 televised fights and fought for major promotions including the IFL, WSOF, and Bellator MMA. Due to his abilities, knowledge and experience Ed West has since gone on to be involved in many aspects of the Mixed Martial Arts world as a coach and corner for fighters in the UFC as well as a commentator for multiple Arizona promotions. His ability to communicate and articulate MMA action has helped many understand and relate to the world of mixed martial arts. He has taught courses on women’s self-defense as well as numerous speaking engagements including testimony on behalf of the Arizona Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission for the passage of House Bill 2170 in 2018. Well-known and respected by his peers, Ed West continues to be involved in the Mixed Martial Arts community and has long been seen as a great Ambassador for the sport.
