Toma Walton

Toma Walton is from Jefferson City, MO where he graduated from Jefferson City High School. He started in MMA a year after he graduated from High School in 2010 where he had amassed 5 years of wrestling experience (1 year in Middle School) and had an accomplishment of taking 2nd place at the Hazelwood Freestyle State Tournament his senior year. A few years ago, Toma took on bodybuilding and was serious with it for almost three years but knew something was missing. He was never satisfied with just training in bodybuilding and even when he was going to the gym all seven days out the week, he still didn’t find a passion in it like he had with competing in MMA.

Toma began training at a local gym in Jefferson City, Missouri and soon after started competing in MMA. He progressed to being ranked #2 in Missouri as an amateur light heavyweight. He now currently trains out of the Hulett House Gym in Columbia, Missouri with a record of 11-4. Toma trains under the direct supervision of one of the UMMAF Head Coaches, Rob Hulett.

Toma states "With the support of my family and knowing I have the ability to one day give them everything they need, I’m right where I want to be. I have so much ambition and passion for this sport. I know I’m good at what I do and I’m only getting better and better every single day. After every training session I already feel more accomplished from when I walked in the door a few hours ago. Come see us fight and you will see a light heavyweight that you have never seen before."

Codie Wareham

Born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, her determination to be the best athlete became stronger every day.  She started wrestling in 8th grade and continued through her 4 years in High School.  Her Senior year, she was the only girl on the team.

"I had no idea that this was the sport that would change my life and transition me to MMA. I do not compare myself to others; my biggest goal is to be a better person than who I was yesterday and to go above and beyond towards what I want. I didn’t know I would become so hungry, determined, and self-disciplined." - Codie

After graduating from high school in 2013 Codie wasn’t sure what to do without wrestling. She went to college to be in the medical field and became very independent on her own. That wasn’t enough. She worked so hard for years to become a wrestler with blood sweat and tears, she did not want to throw that talent away. She decided to pick up on some Jiu-Jitsu at a gym called Frostbite.  Little did she know she would fall in love with Jiu-Jitsu and become the Alaska State Champion 3 times in a row in short amount of time.

When she was asked if she would ever fight in the cage while just learning Jiu-Jitsu, she laughed because she thought that was a crazy idea. “Why would I fight in the cage?” she said. Now she's asking herself “Why not?”

As her Jujitsu game became stronger she started picking up Muay Thai Boxing. Slowly but surely she had her stand up technique, Jiu-Jitsu and my wrestling experience to work with. Her first fight ever was in St. Louis, Missouri for UMMAF Nationals. She became the National Champion as an amateur and went on to Worlds with many other countries.  She represented Team USA at the World Championships in Las Vegas and loss to the World Champion for IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation).

Seeing many athletes with the same drive she had was such an eye opener. Traveling to compete isn’t  easy but it is well worth it. There has been nonstop competing for her for two years and she is just getting started. She has fought 11 times in two years as well as numerous victories with Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. When she's not competing, it’s most likely because she lives in Alaska. (Yes, being an athlete in Alaska can be a downfall because there is a lack of female competitors for MMA.) Traveling to compete can be a challenge. In addition to training she works in the emergency department as a Tech and part-time server at a pub.

"I am always training and working hard to become a better version of myself." - Codie

This has been her 3rd time going to UMMAF Nationals and her second time becoming a UMMAF National Champion. Between all three national tournaments she has grown into a well-rounded fighter and is looking forward to growing more with the process.

Darion Weeks

Darian Weeks is originally from Memphis, TN but moved to Sedalia, Missouri as a youth where he attended Smith Cotton High School. Darian trains at The Body Shop owned by coach John Maupins who is a former middleweight title holder in three promotions.

For Darian, MMA seemed to be a natural progression after his 4 years of wrestling in high school. Darian impressively rattled off 5 straight MMA victories to start his MMA journey before suffering his first defeat to his now current UMMAF National team partner Benjamin Bennett (loss was in 2016).

Darian continues to compete and earned his place on the US National Team by becoming the 2017 UMMAF Amateur Middleweight National Champion. Darian now states "I can't wait to put my skills to the test against the best in the world!"
